Description Grit Feeder for Chickens Chicken grit feeder with a rain cover to keep the feed dry. The cover can be removed to fill and clean the feeder. Why do chickens need grit ? Because chickens have no teeth, (hence the saying ” as rare as hens teeth”), they will swallow grit. The grit passes into the birds Gizzard where combined with muscular action it grinds the food to assist digestion. Why mix flint grit and oyster shell ? The flint grit is non soluble and provides the grinding medium, (see above). The oyster shell is a soluble grit which dissolves when digested and is a source of calcium. This is essential for good egg shell production and strong bones. Specifically designed for use with the DNA Sparkler, this cylinder can make up 60 litres of carbonation. Send your empty cylinder back to us and we will give you R140 rand back for your next refill. We will arrange for the collection of the CO2 Cylinder at your home when you order your refill through our website. Please note that the Courier will occasionally send 2 separate drivers, one to collect the empty cylinders and another to deliver the refills, and this may happen at different times or days. This is completely normal even though it may seem odd – they know what they are doing.
